On sait que Voltaire en peignant son Pauvre diable avait devant les yeux un certain Simeon Valette, sur lequel on trouve une notice curieuse dans le Magasin encyclopedique de 1811 (1l, de meme l'original de la peinture de Diderot etait bien reellement le neveu du celebre auteur de Castor et Pollu.v a cet egard, le te moignage de Mercier, dans son Tableau de Paris ne laisse aucun doute.
