The following pages make no pretence to the dignity of a Treatise on the subject of Purchase for Valuable Consideration without Notice.
They amount only to an attempt to elucidate the circumstances under which the Defence of Purchase for Valuable Consideration without Notice may be successfully set up, and, so far as possible, the general principles which determine the applicability or other wise of the defence; and they are offered merely as a contribution towards the investigation of a subject which seems worthy of more attention than it has hitherto received.
The con?icting views entertained by Lord St. Leonards and Lord Westbury respecting the cases of Williams v. Lambe and Collins v. Archer will, it is hoped, be regarded as sufficient excuse for the length at which those decisions have been discussed.
