Truth to speak, the Author's poetical efforts have obtained just so much acceptance as to awaken in him the hope and the desire that he may one day be able to issue a volume containing much better things than are here offered. But lest the reader should be too strongly reminded of a long passage leading to a house very scantily furnished, it were well to end a preface already too long.
