Publisher's Synopsis

Entire first series of the popular American comedy. In 'Pilot - Northern Exposure', aspiring New Yorker doctor Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow) finds that the only place he can get a much-needed scholarship is Alaska, in the nowhere town of Cicely. 'Brains, Know-How and Native Intelligence' sees Joel asked to help Ed's medicine man uncle, who refuses to have the prostate operation which will save his life. In 'Soapy Anderson', Maggie and Joel are left 100 acres of land by hermit Soapy Anderson when he dies, in the hope that it will bring them together. Joel, however, only sees the opportunity to sell up and return to New York. 'Dreams, Schemes and Putting Greens' sees Joel attempting to help Maurice sell the Alaskan Riviera to two Japanese businessmen in the hope that he will be able to play golf at the resort they plan to build. In 'Russian Flu', Joel's long-awaited reunion with girlfriend Elaine is put on hold when Cicely falls prey to a flu epidemic. 'Sex, Lies and Ed's Tape' sees the pregnant Shelly distraught that her husband wants a divorce in order to wed her best friend, despite the fact that the father of her child is in fact a man called Holling who wasn't even aware she was marrried! In 'A Kodiak Moment', Maurice asks Chris to become his son when he realizes that he has no heir to the Minnifield empire. Finally, 'Aurora Borealis' finds Joel being educated by Ed in the legend of a bigfoot-like creature called Adam who is said to roam the Alaskan outerlands.
