No Tale of Wo is a coming-of-age story. It speaks to the difficulties of growing up in a broken home, while also facing the challenges of high school. It explores teenage choices and relationships, depression, sexual assault, friendship, love, and forgiveness.
Kara Milton, a 17-year-old junior, feels trapped in her life, swept up into popularity and dating the captain of the football team. By anyone else's standards she should feel pleased and ecstatic about her standing in the high school social hierarchy, but inside she is dying. As she makes the decision to get out of her relationship and the in-crowd, she realizes this is going to be much harder than she imagined. While navigating the slippery slopes of morality and teenage drinking, she finds herself at the precipice of a big decision...many in fact. Will she be able to pull away? And if she does, what will her life be like? Her newfound ex-boyfriend is not going to let her go so easily and seems quite determined to make Kara's life a living hell. Kara courageously faces many challenges along this journey and finds respite, in caring for her grandmother Mimi. It is during this particular summer that she finally lets go of her self-loathing, her estranged relationship with her father and older brother, as well as learns to trust again.
