Melissa's mother, Sylvia Ross, is convalescing after surgery in Framleigh House Retirement Home when a fellow resident's dog suddenly dies. And soon, so does the dog's owner. To Melissa's consternation, Sylvia decides to do some detective work, and some interesting questions are raised. But when another resident is taken ill, Melissa becomes seriously concerned for her mother's safety. With the aid of local journalist Bruce Ingram, Melissa starts her own investigation and in so doing puts her own life in jeopardy.
