This is the first book in the Deal series and is set against the world of commercial property in 1980's London where a young ambitious surveyor, Rupert Brett, starts his career. It does for commercial property what Suits and John Grisham have done for the law.
The story moves from London to Italy and back following the career of Rupert Brett as he scales the corporate ladder power, intrigue and relationships.
He finds a market of greed, ambition and corruption, with the markets alight and everyone out for themselves. This he expected but as he gets to understand the markets better, he realises that nothing is as its seems with bribing of planning officers and fund managers the norm: but then he discovers that markets are being manipulated through corporate espionage and even murder. As he moves deeper in to this dark world, he gets caught in a web of intrigue, by a corrupt developer Paul Simions. Information is key and Simions is using a network of spies and undercover placements to source information.
As Brett gets too close he is framed for the murder of his girlfriend and viewed with suspicion by all in including most of his friends. His one ally is Claire Sewell a friend from university. Together the pair must battle on all sides fighting to prove his innocence and the money laundering and murder that is rife within the markets.
The police set a trap using Brett as bait, still unsure of his innocence and he is employed by Simions, living a dangerous double life. Spying for the police he finds that the key lies in Italy and follows the trail of money with a hit man on his trail and the net closing in.
He is kidnapped and hospitalised, believed dead. His nemesis in London believes he is safe and Brett begins his dangerous scheme to prove his innocence and incriminate the developers.
As the noose tightens, pursued by police and professional killers alike, will Brett survive in this world of double-dealing and death?
