It's the year 1759 and Jamie Kinross has decided to leave Sweden and go to India to try and escape his past. There he begins anew and becomes a gem merchant. The problems soon arise: the family of his mentor is kidnapped and he will do anything and travel anywhere to try and help. When he arrives in the city of Surat, he meets the rich, beautiful widow Zarmina Miller. He soon discovers that Zarmina's stepson is involved in the kidnapping and she, too, has a past she would like to forget.
