Publisher's Synopsis

The Cullman Democrat was established in 1901 Its circulation soon grew to match that of the most successful Alabama weekly newspapers. By January of 1903, the paper was purchased by Joseph Robert Rosson. It remained in control of the Rosson family for many years afterwards. Original copies of the paper from the Cullman County Court House Basement Archives, along with originals from the State Archives in Montgomery were reviewed with a view for capturing items of births, marriage notices, deaths, and obituaries. Other clippings were transcribed having to do with the history of Cullman County. Many of the clippings found here refer to people and events not found in any other history book. The Cullman Democrat recalls people and events of long ago and will be read with interest by the thousands of descendants of the earliest settlers of Cullman and the surrounding small communities.
