Publisher's Synopsis
This volume reports the proceedings of the inaugural workshop and the inaugural session of the European Decade of Brain Research. It comprehensively reviews experimental and clinical advances in our understanding of affective disorders. Several authors discuss the main pharmacological and psychological approaches to the treatment of depression. The preclinical profiles of both classic and novel antidepressants are considered. The reports of two panel discussions, representing consensus documents on medical and social issues relating to the treatment of CNS-related disorders and the regulation of drug development, are included in the volume. Taken together, the papers are a useful update for scientists and clinicians concerned with depressive disorders as well as for health regulatory authorities and medical and marketing representatives in pharmaceutical industries.
