This volume provides treatments of a selection of contemporary statistical ideas and methods, reflecting amongst other issues, current preoccupations with exploratory and robust methods, the linear model and experimental design, and the role of the computer in data analysis.;Some of the methods discussed are either new to social science or have not received widespread exposure, eg compositional data analysis, classification trees and time series analysis. Others concentrate on advances in more familiar topics, eg latent variable analysis and non-parametric methods. Each chapter contains examples from the social sciences.
