Publisher's Synopsis

This is a gritty and memorable debut novel about a twenty-year old runaway. We first meet Perry on his way to New York with his life savings of $4300 in a shoebox and his sketchpad in hand. Perry grapples in art, but he has no plans for the future; he doesn't seem to care if he even has one, but he does have anger and despair. Perry quickly befriends people like himself, filling his days with drugs, booze and sex. But Perry soon becomes disgusted with his life in a cheap and filthy hostel, so he calls his bother Alex who is also in New York. Alex isn't exactly happy to hear from Perry, but Alex's girlfriend Andrea makes an effort to help Perry find a job. In spite of Andrea's efforts, Perry persists in his irresponsible lifestyle, becoming more frenzied, drug-driven, violent, and sexually charged. He receives intermittent calls from his mother while staying at his brother's apartment. Perry ignores his mother's short declarations of love. As "Never Enders" continues, we see Perry's life spiralling to lower depths as we ultimately learn why and how Perry manages to avoid his own self-destruction.
