There was a consensus of thought that after the catastrophic loss of life resulting from the depravity of the Nazi era that no such ideology could darken our world again. We were supposed to have learned a lesson from history but after witnessing the defragmentation of Yugoslavia and the subsequent Balkan wars and death camps, the lesson was all too soon forgotten. The only question was - where, when and how could it happen again? Not in Britain, surely?
