Publisher's Synopsis
This study of Parkinson's disease is divided into two sections, the first is a presentation of recent advances in the understanding of neurodegeneration and discusses amongst other things the study of the parkin gene and protein, the loss of whose function appears to be key to nigral degeneration in the autosomal recessive form of familial parkinsonism. The second part is concerned with advances in neuroprotection and begins with a description of the different approaches to treatment and an examination of the problems associated with demonstrating a neuroprotective effect in clinical trials.
