Publisher's Synopsis
Masola Kumile started recording the history of his own people as early as 1922. These texts are of immense value since they represent the only extensive written source that exists in any of the relevant dialects. They also proved most valuable for Pieter Wentzel's research on the dialects of Western Shona and their relationship with Venda. Kalanga, the language of the texts, is perhaps the best known. This study consists of three volumes: Vol 1: A history of the Kalanga based on texts and translations; Vol 2 Annotations on the texts of Volume 1; Vol 3: The results of research done on the Western Shona dialects and their relationship with Venda.
