Publisher's Synopsis
A fascinating account of life as a national serviceman between 1950 and 1963, based on the author's interviews with between 15-30 servicemen. Each chapter will focus on 1-2 interviewees who were called up in a specific year, and the intention is to find people from a broad range of backgrounds and regions who all came through one base. Through these voices, we'll find out what life as a conscript was like, and how soldiers' attitudes changed as the war became more of a distant memory.
