Publisher's Synopsis

The 1798 rising had failed, and many Irish nationalists had fled to France. In 1803, Napoleon created an Irish legion, which he said he would send to liberate Ireland as part of his war against England. Many Irishmen joined up; but the invasion never happened, and the legion was used to further Bonapartist interests until it was disbanded in 1815.
