Rare Book
Apparently a fair copy, but still with plenty of corrections. A note at the end of the main text says that the poem was written before the removal of the remains, which took place in 1840. The poem is written from the victor's point of view, and yet with ungrudging admiration for a great man. The poem is accompanied by several drafts, as well as 2 more poems, both in more than one form, viz. 'The Gathering of the Troops in Brussels for Waterloo', and an 'Ode on the Death of Sir John Moore.'Some of the pieces have a small piece excised on the final leaf, where the writer's name would have appeared. At the beginning of one piece however the initials H.C. appear, and at the end of another, rather than being excised a signature has been partially bleached out - indecipherable however.
