In her autobiography Gudrun Honig writes about her childhood and youth in war-time and post-war Germany and her travel to Canada in the 1950's. Her adventures include escaping from aircraft fire, bartering for supplies, and participating in the Berlin airlift. The anecdotes are interlaced with social and historical commentary as well as with parallels from the stories of the Brothers Grimm.
