Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from My Father's House, or the Heaven of the Bible

The author has carefully sought not to invade the reserve with which the Word of God surrounds this subject. Like the bounds which were set about Sinai in the wilderness, it was doubtless designed to protect the city of the living God, from irreverent approach, or from a tri?ing and pro fane gaze. Moreover, probably all that we are able to bear now (john xvi. Has been revealed; and any attempt to attain to greater definiteness, in respect to the locality, the particular scenery, and the employments of heaven, cannot promote reverence or true devotional feel ing. Nevertheless, those things which are revealed belong unto us, and our children, for ever, and we should be as careful to study and teach them, as we are to stop at the boundary, which separates them from the domain of specula tion.
