Death on the high seas... After crossing the Atlantic aboard the LUSITANIA, George Porter Dillman and Genevieve Masefield are back in Liverpool for the first voyage of the MAURETANIA. Soon after it leaves port, the vessel encounters severe weather and one of the passengers vanishes. Dillman and Genevieve soon come to realise that his disappearance is an act of murder, connected with the presence on board of twelve tons of gold bullion sent from the Bank of England to help bolster the American economy. Dillman and Genevieve have to solve a murder, catch the thieves and retrieve the stolen bullion...without breaking their cover.
