Publisher's Synopsis

During a brutal and violent transit strike in New York City in 1916, Jake Pratt's brother Frank is killed when a street car jumps the tracks and smashes into the jitney in which he was riding. Jake, a reporter for the New York World, suspects his brother's death was not an accident. Strikers sabotaged the street cars as a weapon against the owners of the street car companies. He suspects his brother's death was a result of such sabotage. He takes it upon himself to learn the circumstances surrounding his brother's death. To his horror his investigation leads to a member of his own family. The events that follow almost destroy him. The story tells how Jake attempts to resolve the conflicts within his family and within himself.
