Publisher's Synopsis

Storyteller and submariner Mr. Zea regales his readers with true stories about life at sea.

Before he goes into detail about his days as a submariner, Mr. Zea first writes about his childhood. He recalls being caught climbing a tree by his two bossy sisters, encountering a demonic chicken, taking part in the hunt for a nutria, and having a perfect day at the beach.

By 1987, Mr. Zea was in Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. His adventures in class were just the start of a navy career full of strange sights and crazy characters. The Cold War was winding down, but navy men must always be at the ready. Mr. Zea recounts hilarious stories about his shipmates and commanding officers. Even better than his stories about life on board are the stories of the trouble he gets up to on land.

For Mr. Zea, his greatest accomplishments aren't being in the navy or traveling the world. Instead, he remembers a moment with his daughter. Despite their focus on action and humor, many of his stories have an air of melancholy that will stay with readers and cause them to examine the experiences in their own lives.
