Moving Towards Manhood: A Mentoring Process How do I know when I have moved from childhood to manhood? Do I really have what it takes? Many young men struggle with these and similar questions. Whether due to the postmodern worldview prevalent in today's youth culture, or the majority of young men coming from broken families and missing fathers, the journey to masculinity has become difficult and undefined. If a boy is to find his way, he must have a guide to mentor and coach him along the way, but it is a process requiring time and intentional effort. It is a process that will take the rest of his life to complete. Behaviors or Values Many times we focus on the behaviors of people rather than looking for the underlying values that motivated or caused the behavior initially. Moving from childhood to manhood requires the young man to look at his values, to see which ones he truly holds, and which ones are his parents' or loved ones'. In difficult times, holding to other people's values that are not your own will not be enough. Men, who have strong, godly values, are the ones who make the best decisions in the face of difficulty or challenge. This is especially true in the area of personal faith and salvation in Christ. This mentoring program is for men to lead other men to maturity in Christ. I describes a process that grows and expands with the needs and various contexts we find ourselves in as we all journey towards godly manhood.
