Tatiana is fed up with always feeling second best. She is interested in science and is good at it, but she never seems to finish things and doubts her ability all the time. She is determined to win the prize for the best science project at the Science Fair but doesn't believe she can compete with Hilbert McNair - he always comes top of the class without even trying. Tatty wins through against the odds and learns that rather than envying her friends and rejecting their help, she must let them help her to become the Tatiana she wishes to be.
