This book tells of the first part of the voyage the Hope family undertook aboard their sailing catamaran MOTLEY ONE. It covers their journey from England to Antigua. This is not simply the story of a voyage. It is about the way of life assumed by a family because of a desire to sail the oceans.They learnt from questions asked by people taken sailing while working in Antigua, how difficult it is for those who live all their lives ashore to imagine now family life must be, travelling around the world in a small boat. Technologies for Navigation, Communication and Weather Information have changed dramatically since the Motley One crew made their voyage but the stresses and needs of family life afloat have not. Much more will be told in the next book, recounting their experiences in the Caribbean and onward to Panama.
