Publisher's Synopsis
Motifis is a first year French programme with a communicative, thematically-based approach. Each of the 16 modules thoroughly integrate vocabulary, grammar and cultural insights with that module's theme (5 themes per module). Textbook and audiocassette activities allow students to focus on meaningful communication while practicing key structures closely tied to the contexts where they naturally occur in French. Features: * Each theme-centered module presents vocabulary, grammar, and culture in a unified context. * The Pratiques de Conversation (five per module) develop real world language proficiency by presenting high frequency expressions used in practical situations. These expressions are included in dialogues on the listening cassette which accompanies the textbook. Corresponding in-text activities are denoted with an icon. * Integrated video segments, filmed in France, also reinforce the Pratiques de Conversation. * Activity pages in French allow instructors to focus on using French in the classroom. Lively communicative activities support student expression. * Structure pages present clear explanations in English and examples of targeted grammar structures (for home study).;Self-correcting exercises allow students to check their understanding. Structure Highlights in the activity pages alert students to structures in use. * Un Pas en Avant offers culminating discussion and composition activities for each module, pulling together the vocabulary, themes, and structures in authentic language use. * Lectures appeal to student interests and complement each module theme with authentic texts drawn from magazine articles, poems, and short stories. Each reading is accompanied by pre- and post-reading activities. * Culture notes written in French and accompanied by follow-up questions portray French-speaking cultures as dynamic. * Bulletins provide concise, interesting, and up-to-date facts about France, allowing students to compare and contrast the United States and France. * Vocabulary for each module--categorized as fundamental or supplementary--provides students with a range of choice and limits the quantity of vocabulary to study for exams.
