As Smith-Bayne and his wife research, they find there's a chilling pattern over the centuries: George Washington, restaurateur Joe Pasconi, writer Alison True-all were approached by the same organization, all suffered catastrophic repercussions when they didn't comply with its wishes. Every fresh discovery increases the danger. When a deadly crash claims the life of their friend Barley and severely injures Mac-I, the Smiths realize they're caught in the identical deadly cycle. Their sole hope is to discover the creature's weakness. Yet to battle an immortal entity involves jeopardizing all they hold dear. With the Mothman's vengeance intensifying, the professors must decipher how to prevent a cycle of devastation from recurring for generations.
