Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Moral Teachings of the Koran

The object of writing this paper has been to get something of a first hand knowledge of the moral teachings of the Koran as a basis for understanding Islam. The way has not been without difficulties, for the field does not seem to have been worked much. For centuries the information about Islam current in the West has come through strongly biassed minus. Only in recent times has there been much of an attempt to approach the study of this great religion of the world in an impartial, scientific manner. Typical of writers who are biassed is Samual Purchas, who wrote a large volume in 1626 to his most excellent majesty, Charles by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, etc. Mohammed, according to him, was guiltie of witchcraft. Making a marginal comment on the Arabian prophet's disclaim to be a miracle-worker, this interesting writer says, The Fox will eate no grapes because they are sowre, and hang too high.
