MOLKICK is a software package for creating chemical structures and translating them into search strings for online structure searching in different host systems. A structure search in a chemical database finds the exact structure created with MOLKICK. Stereoisomers, isotopically-labeled and charged forms, salts and multi-component compounds may also be found, depending on the search options specified and the capabilities of the search system. A substructure search finds all structures in a chemical database which have the structure embedded within them. The number of structures the user will expect to retrieve depends on the degree of specificity with which the structure has been described. MOLKICK allows the user to create and manage structure queries offline, thereby reducing online costs. The user can then go online and have the communications software upload the structure query for searching on the chosen host. MOLKICK allows the user to search the structure databases of several different hosts using the same structure query. MOLKICK translates the structure query into the form of description which is required by each host, freeing the user from the need to master the individual requirements of each host. The following host services are supported: STN, Télésystèmes Questel, DIALOG.
