The first entrant is Abraham Lincoln, shot in 1865 and subsequent entries are listed in chronological order or grouped yearly if interrelated. The entries include the manner of assassination, the motive, the assailant, if known, and a brief biography for the major figures. The Prologue gives a summary of major leaders who died by assassination or execution prior to 1865. It is indexed both by name and by country of nationality.
