Douglas was governor of the workhouse in Maryport, in Cumberland, and one of the poems, of 8 pages, is 'The Poor House', the inhabitants of which are described in some detail. Other poems are 'On Emigrants sailing to America', 'On the Death of Mr. H. Senhouse, jun.' (builder of Maryport, named for his wife), and 'On visiting the Monument of Burns.' This last is one of his weaker efforts: The Poor House, on the other hand, resonates. There are 5 copies in COPAC, none in WorldCat.
