Publisher's Synopsis
This report characterizes the views and aspirations of people living in disadvantaged communities, vis-a-vis their transport and mobility needs, in the context of the changing transport policy agenda. It outlines the current behaviour and views of disadvantaged communities regarding the provision of transport and others services in their areas and explores their perceptions of broader transport-related issues and of current government transport policies. It also examines the extent to which current transport policies meet the needs of disadvantaged communities.;The report is based on the findings of five case studies, carried out in areas of either spatial or economic deprivation on the basis of quantitative analysis of the National Travel Survey. The research also included in-depth interviews with key professionals at the local and national level, to provide background information for each of these case study areas, and to identify their perception of the problems. This report offers a range of perspectives from the different social groups living within disadvantaged communities.
