Publisher's Synopsis

The study examines Mexico's experience in the development of its vast hydrocarbon resources during the latter half of the 1970s and early 1980s. The study assesses the impact that Mexico's dependent state status has had upon the development of the resource and explores the question of whether the oil boom provoked a greater internationalization of the Mexican economy or led to a favorable redefinition of the terms of Mexico's dependence. The study examines the impact of the development of the resource upon the state capitalist model and considers the viability of that model in the current context.
