The proceedings of EXPLOMET '95, International Conference on Metallurgical and Materials Applications of Shock-Wave and High-Strain-Rate Phenomena in Materials, was the fourth in the EXPLOMET quinquennial series begun in 1980. In the period since the last conference in 1990, significant world events have played a major role in the emphasis of topic areas. Shock consolidation continues to be an actively pursued research topic, but industrial applications have eluded it. Nonetheless, the pervasive theme of applications of shock wave and related high-strain-rate phenomena in a wide range of materials systems and processes remained a principal feature of this conference.;Divided into 8 sections, the book contains a total of 110 papers. Section 1 deals with dynamic consolidation of materials, while section 2 covers dynamic fracture phenomena. Materials aspects of ballistic and hypervelocity impact and penetration are described in section 3, followed by a related treatment of extreme plastic deformation, including adiabatic shear bands, dynamic recrystallization, shaped charges and explosively formed penetrator phenomena in section 4. Modelling and simulation of shock-wave and high-strain-rate phenomena in materials is treated in section 5 followed by shock-induced reactions and synthesis in section 6, and shock wave modification material structure and properties in section 7. The final section includes papers dealing generally with explosive welding, high-strain-rate deformation, and material working.;This book, with emphasis on materials applications and effects, should provide a useful research update in the metallurgical materials applications of shock-wave and high-strain-rate phenomena, as well as a general reference tool and teaching component for specialized curricular dealing with dynamic effects in materials.
