Based on a sustainability theme, the reader follows Mermaid Kamalani and her Green sea turtle friends as they discover unique characteristics and challenges facing the Hawaiian Islands. As the trio takes advantage of multiple modes of transportation they learn about Hawaii's environmental issues, its lush geography, some history, and fun science facts. All of these interesting concepts play a part in this book's theme on sustainability and leaves the reader with a challenging question, "what could you do?" Also introduced are a variety of aquatic animals only indigenous to Hawaii and some that migrate thousands of miles to visit the Islands. This book is on a second grade reading level and is designed to educate and spark the imagination of the reader on our Aloha State!
