"This book addresses the importance of mentoring in the professional education of ESOL and bilingual education teachers. Professional development for ESOL teachers is an important component of building systems of support for teachers. In ESOL educational contexts teacher collaboration is particularly important due to multiple layers of instruction provided for English learners. Therefore, schools need to provide support for ESOL teachers to train them to be active participants in professional communities to improve their knowledge and instruction for English learners and also improve parental, family, and community engagement.
