Excerpt from Memorials of Merton College: With Biographical Notices of the Wardens and Fellows
All these materials, but especially the College Registers and the remains of Anthony Wood, have been freely employed in the historical sketch which forms the first Part, and in the Appendices, but are seldom expressly cited, except where some discrepancy requires attention. It has been impossible, in all cases, to verify dates, but it may be assumed that where an event is assigned to a given year, without the addition of a month and day, the year is mostly reckoned according to the Old Style. Sometimes, however, we encounter con?icting dates which are not capable of being thus reconciled.
