The Memorials of James Hogg published in 1884, having been received with much kindness and approbation, an issue of the work in a slightly different and cheaper form has been asked. I have much pleasure in bringing this work in a less expensive form before a larger class of readers. The indomitable, perseverance and energy of the Ettrick Shepherd convey many a wholesome lesson. Fortunately there are few in the present day who have had such limited educational advantages, and still fewer who without those advantages have been able to rise to a position of marked eminence.
