Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Memorial of the Revival in Plymouth Church, Brooklyn, (Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, ) During the Early Part of the Year 1858: Comprising Incidents and Narratives, and Also Fragments of Sermons, Lectures, Etc;, By the Pastor

The sole aim of these few pages has been to minister to the pleasure, and it is hoped also to the profit of the great numbers, both in our vicinity and at a distance, who have asked so eagerly for details of the remarkable religious awakening which has recently taken place among us.

The recital is, perhaps, neither as lengthy nor as full as might have been desired. It claims only to be a sketch and if it shall succeed in enabling some to picture for themselves what they have desired to see, yet have not seen; if it shall help others to recall things which have been to them both delight ful and useful; and if, further, it shall serve to show by what simple methods a daily gathering for prayer was rendered so intensely interesting and attractive, and shall be in anywise suggestive in this respect to others, it will have fully answered its purpose.
