The district treated of in this Memoir occupies the central portion of Norfolk, and embraces an area of about 205 square miles. It includes the towns of East Dereham, Litcham, and Reepham; and North Elmham (once a city and the seat of the Bishops of Norfolk from ad. 673 to ad. And the villages of Necton, Shipdham, Mattishall, Ringland, Lyng, Swanton Morley, Tittleshall, and others of smaller size.
