Publisher's Synopsis

This book is a selection of Meister Eckhart's writings, known as "the father of German mystics". Little detail is known of the 14th-century mystic. He was a Dominican monk and his name appears on the list of professors at the University of Paris in 1302. In 1329 he was condemned for heresy. He was excommunicated for his radical thinking and accused of preaching to the people things that might lead to heresy. "If the ignorant are not taught, they will never learn," he replied. His writings were passed secretly from hand to hand over the years and were often read aloud in monasteries at mealtimes, acquiring the name, "table talk".
