When a tornado rips through their valley, May is devastated to lose not only their barn and half their harvest, but her father as well. Struggling to make ends meet with cold weather on the horizon, May is concerned that she will never manage to rebuild the barn in time before winter.
Bram is pleased when the bishop approaches him to rebuild May's barn. The entire community comes together to raise funds for the materials, and Bram offers his services free of charge. But as soon as Bram meets May, he realizes that working for May could be more dangerous for his heart than his reputation as a carpenter.
As Christmas draws closer, both Bram and May discover an unexpected connection. Bram tries to fight against his feelings, having been scorned by love before. Whilst May is uncertain if she's ready for the next chapter of her life, whilst still mourning her father's death.
