Publisher's Synopsis
The retired owner of the Manley Funeral Home asks his nephew Sam, who works there, to secretly visit him to discuss suspicious recent activity there.
Sam finds his uncle dead. A death due to heart attack certificate is issued without an autopsy.
That night, Sam interrupts Andrew Byrnes, a funeral director and son of manager, John Byrnes, embalming a body and suspects it was his Uncle's.
The next day, Sam drives the casket he suspects holds his uncle under another name for shipment to another State. Armed men tailing the hearse keep him from checking the corpse on the way.
In Mexico, Michael and Karen Stern's vacation is cut short when Michael is killed to provide a body in which to ship items to the Manley Funeral Home.
The insurance company the Sterns are insured by insists Michael must be autopsied before burial.
On arrival next A.M., Karen Stern wants Michael promptly cremated. Andrew assures her it will be taken care of and drives off with the casket.
Andrew hides Stern's cadaver, then "persuades" a vagrant to let himself be immediately cremated instead.
That night, Sam blunders into the prep room of the funeral home and sees Andrew removing the payload from Stern's corpse.
Later, Sam finds that body hidden in the funeral home since Andrew could not get rid of it yet. He moves the body to a different place in the building. Andrew returns and searches frantically until he finds the body and removes it.
The Organization, those behind the stuff being secretly brought into the U.S., now wants both Sam and Andrew silenced since each knows too much.
Sam, Andrew, John, each enter the funeral home separately. Sam end up leading Andrew on a until the police can be called.
Two Organization hit men enter to kill Andrew and recognize they can get rid of everyone they are looking for here and now. A gun fight begins, with three factions trying to neutralize one another.
