Publisher's Synopsis
The subject of this exhibition catalogue is the donation by the Matisse family of some 400 paper cut-outs to the Musée Matisse du Le Cateau-Cambrésis in 2012. These painted cut-outs served as a palette of forms and colours for Matisse, and when he died there were almost a thousand of them left in his studio. They are presented for the first time in this catalogue, which provides a unique window into the working process behind some of Matisse's most important works and reveals a new facet of his creativity.
