Bookseller Notes

An earlier version of Cameron's translation, with several differences in each of the 25 stanzas to the versions published in New Verse, June-July 1936, and his 1942 'Selected Verse Poems' of Rimbaud for the Hogarth Press; a comparison, with particular attention to the corrections in stanzas 20 & 21, suggests this is probably an intermediary version. An excellent insight into the work of the translator. Cameron was a Scot, born in India but the family returning to Edinburgh and educated there; he attended Oriel College, Oxford during the 1920s, and was subsequently associated with poets such as Robert Graves, Laura Riding, and Dylan Thomas.
