Employing women in management comes at a higher cost than hiring men. This statement is startling, in part because it is true, but primarily because it is something that people are hesitant to discuss. According to a recent study conducted by one international business, top-performing women have a 21/2 times greater rate of management position turnover than top-performing men. A significant consumer goods manufacturer claims that fifty percent of women who take maternity leave do not or return to work very late.Women are no longer just a tempting source of sporadic creative genius, a pain in the EEO officer's side, or a cause of annoyance to corporate leaders who are genuinely perplexed by the pace at which they are moving up the corporate ladder and into executive roles.The majority of the organization's males, who are over 55 and have wives who are typically conventional, perceive working women to be "masculine" and challenging to accept as colleagues. These males are missing the point, which is that these women are comparable to the greatest men in the organisation, not that they are just like men. And the shortage is severe. Gender cannot be permitted to matter when evaluating the finest individuals.
