The author has lived many lives, in many places, from big city to small village to remote cabin. Growing up in Germany during the lead-up to World War II and through the war itself, she experienced the cacophony of war, and much later, the silence of the Alaskan wilderness punctuated only by the high-pitched call of a bald eagle.
