Publisher's Synopsis

The best starship. The best crew. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Everybody believed so. There were wrong. A hell lot of things were to go wrong. Maddeningly, things went wrong exactly because starship and crew were the best. "MAIDEN VOYAGE - THE PENDRAGON'S GIMME FIVE EVENT" is an amazing Science Fiction novel including a plethora of exiting elements which together form an entraining story which carries the reader along into an astounding universe of stunning adventures. The novel includes all the classical elements of Science Fiction, like starships, hyperspace, different alien species, and exo-planets. Beyond that, the story includes a murder mystery, a gentle and tender yet troubled romance, with the unfortunate lovers being subjected to contrarian outside pressures, big-power politics, military strategy, the machinations of galactic secret services, a sufficient amount of technology to fulfil the desires of fans of 'hard sci-fi', the occasional dose of (dark) humour, a bit of a Robinsonade, and much insight into the behaviour of humans under extreme distress. The characters have been crafted with skill and determination to make them life-like, desisting from the temptation to create superheroes while yet having them strong enough to let their successes appear credible. There is some good deal of outer action, while much of what is going on in the novel is centred around the characters, their interests and desires, their compulsions and obligations, their sense of duty and their conflicting instincts. Carefully crafted dialogues make up a good share of the book and let the reader experience the characters' thoughts via their own words.
