Publisher's Synopsis

Dr Mahendralal Sircar was a conventional-turned-homeopath doctor, social reformer, and propagator of scientific studies in nineteenth-century India. He was the founder of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science. This book on Dr Mahendralal Sircar and the National Science Movement is a part of the project on 'Science and Nationalism in Bengal 1876-1947' funded by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). These are papers presented at various local and national seminars from time to time. Each essay is complete in itself. There was no thematic and analytical assessment of Mahendralal in print. This book should fill this gap.
